These downloads are updated drivers for the Alcatel Speed Touch USB DSL Modem. A driver
tells your PC how to interpret information from your modem to your
computer. Loading these more current drivers enables you to bypass
"bugs" which were detected after the modem's initial production and
distribution. These drivers fix the Windows/Me bug, where your computer
is left hanging on shutdown.
If you were an early DSL customer (prior to 11/99) using “bridged” technology or
connect with the NTS PPPoE client, the RFC 1483 downloads would be appropriate for you.
BellSouth’s newer DSL customers should use the current Point-to-Point Protocol
over ATM (PPPoA) downloads.
The I&T Guide offers a comprehensive treatment of Alcatel Speed Touch USB
DSL modem installation and troubleshooting.
